Huskies Advance to PSAC Title Game

INDIANA, PA-- The Bloomsburg University field hockey team advanced to the championship game of the 2007 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference with a 2-1 win over Kutztown University on Friday afternoon in a game played at IUP.

The Huskies, looking for their 15th PSAC title in school history, got on the board first when Jamie Vanartsdalen (Huntingdon Valley/Lower Moreland) scored unassisted at the 11:27 mark. For Vanartsdalen, it was her 32nd goal of the season setting a new Bloomsburg University single season record.

Kutztown tied the score just over two minutes later when Anne Waapu scored off an Alyssa Maltese assist on a corner play.

The game stayed tied at 1-1 till freshman Brieann Wolfe(Perkasie/Pennridge) scored an unassisted goal at the 23:22 mark to put Bloomsburg back in front 2-1. For Wolfe, it was her fifth goal of the week.

Kutztown's best chance to tie the score came with about 11 minutes left to play when Waapu hit the post on a corner play. However, the Huskies were able to clear the ball and avoid giving up the tying goal.

Bloomsburg, now 18-3, will face the winner of the IUP-Shippensburg game on Saturday at 1 p.m. for the PSAC title.
